The sleep-retreat standard: what actually deserves attention
A beautiful room is not automatically a sleep programme.
Duration is only one dimension
Healthy adults generally need at least seven hours of sleep, but regularity, timing and quality also matter.
Design the room for sleep
Blackout, acoustic control, temperature control, low night-time light and minimal service disruption are simple but meaningful design choices.
Know the referral line
Suspected sleep apnoea, persistent insomnia and marked daytime sleepiness belong in clinical assessment. A resort should not market relaxation as diagnosis or treatment.
Do not over-read wearables
Consumer sleep devices are useful for trends and behaviour change, but they are not equivalent to clinical sleep diagnostics.

Interpretation matters: evidence applies to the population, intervention and outcome actually studied. We avoid converting population-level findings into individual promises.
